WHO WE ARE
MedRhythms uses sensors, music, and software to build therapeutics that aim to improve walking impairments caused by neurologic injuries and diseases. Our technology platform powers a pipeline of digital therapeutics across multiple indications, including stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. oUR HISTORY
Our CEO, Brian Harris, launched our therapy practice in 2015 out of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the leading rehabilitation hospitals in the country. Since then, MedRhythms therapists have provided nearly 20,000 hours of direct patient care. Our therapists continue to provide clinical care and improve the lives of patients everywhere (see therapy website).
Due to patient demand and profound clinical outcomes with these therapy services, we decided to scale this treatment with technology to reach the millions of patients who need this care. Our therapeutic platform is designed to improve the lives of patients with walking impairment caused by neurologic injury or disease, and it is based on the evidence-based treatments that our therapists continue to deliver in the clinic to this day. Digital THERAPEUTICS platform for walking
based on rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS)
Clinical Thinking Algorithm
Our platform is designed to digitize an evidence-based intervention known as Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation and is driven by a proprietary algorithm. MedRhythms digitized this intervention to improve walking recovery by developing a “Clinical Thinking Algorithm” that utilizes walking data from inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors to produce decisions similar to a trained therapist. Our algorithm was developed from 30,000 hours of therapist support.
Our Science
Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation, the intervention that our platform is based on, directly stimulates the neural circuitry that controls movement and activates our mechanism of action, which is known as entrainment. This is a neurologic process that involves the coupling of the auditory and motor systems as a result of an external rhythmic cue. Over time, entrainment can lead to lasting mobility improvements due to neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to heal itself.
Music Content
MedRhythms has a patented process to prescreen music for therapeutic potential and adapt the music in real time to therapeutically activate songs. This enables us to use a wide range of user-preferred content.
30 years of academic research
Our platform was built on the principles of entrainment, neuroplasticity, and global activation.
